This is what happens to 99% of people, but supposedly he CAN return alive from the expedition, and when he returns he has new wares ...Before sending Greirat to pillage Irythill, I ran into Patches and got him to stay at Firelink, saved Siegward and gave him his armor whilst buying another set off of Patches (NG+). Then AFTER I cleared Irythill up-to the Church of Yorshka bonfire I homeward bone'd back to the Shrine and told Greirat he is good to go. .
